In 2016, the United States maintained its position as the largest supplier of agricultural and agricultural- related products to South China, with imports of these products at $8.3 billion, nearly the same as the previous year. Brazil was the second largest supplier at $5.6 billion. In 2017, imports from the United States have gotten off to a strong start, and in the first two months are up 27 percent compared to the same time last year.
South China import demand from the United States is largely driven by the livestock and poultry production sectors, with soybeans and sorghum the two largest agricultural imports. South China also has a very large tanning industry for leather production, and a huge furniture producing sector, resulting in substantial imports of U.S. hides, and wood, respectively. Imports of consumer-ready products such as pork and fresh fruit also had robust growth in 2016, and this trend is continuing into 2017. If South China were a country, it would be the 5th largest market in the world for U.S. agriculture. more here
