2018 Agric Show: Farmers Call For Adequate Security At Show

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has appealed to the government and organisers of the 2018 Agriculture Show to provide adequate security at the show to avoid cases of theft.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the show is sponsored by National Agricultural Foundation (NAFN), is scheduled to hold between Oct. 16 and Oct. 19 at Tudun Wada, Keffi – Abuja Road, Nasarawa state.

Speaking with NAN in Abuja on Tuesday, Chief Daniel Okafor, the Vice President of AFAN, said that improved security measures would reduce cases of theft of farmers’ goods experienced in previous shows.

He advised the foundation to provide adequate security at the venue of the show to encourage farmers to attend.

Okafor appealed to states and local governments to support farmers from their states to enable them to participate in the show.

He said the support, which could come in terms of logistics to the show, would encourage farmers to showcase their agriculture technological strength and produce.

“AFAN is in partnership with the foundation for the show.

“We are appealing for more collaboration and partnership, there is a need to collaborate fully with the foundation.

“We are advocating for more security at the show because some of our goods are always been stolen during the show because there are no permanent structures at the venue.

“I advise that there should be permanent structures at the showground to reduce cases of theft.

“I appeal to state and LGA to support and sponsor farmers to attend the show,’’ he said.

The vice president advised farmers to participate in the show, adding that it would be opportunities to interact and liaise with international organisations, input companies, agricultural equipment fabricators, banks and insurance companies.

“The symposium will enable farmers to learn, exchange ideas with farmers from various states and various agriculture stakeholders,’’   he said.

Dr Samuel Negedu, the National Coordinator of the National Agricultural Foundation (NAFN), the organisers of the show, had assured participants that adequate security would be provided at the venue of the show to ensure a hitch-free event

NAN reports that the maiden edition of the agricultural show was held in 2007.

The major aim of the show is to showcase Nigeria’s abundant agricultural potential, resources and products while consolidating past achievements and opening new ways for improvement in the development of the country’s agricultural sector. (NAN)
